How Long Does it Take to Heal?

It can take three to six months for gums to heal for a custom-made denture. It is during this time that gums will heal and that patients will meet with their dentist for fittings and adjustments. In this way, permanent dentures will be a perfect fit once the gums have healed. While the gums are healing, patients are usually given temporary dentures to wear.
Temporary Dentures
Many patients use temporary dentures soon after having their teeth extracted. Besides serving a cosmetic purpose, these dentures help preserve the integrity of the jawbone and the shape of the mouth during the healing process. A temporary denture plays a crucial role here. Extraction of teeth causes the surrounding jawbone to shrink. This is prevented by temporary dentures. However, temporary dentures must also be relined or refitted to ensure they fit properly until the permanent dentures are manufactured.
How Implants Affect the Process

Furthermore, permanent dentures must also be applied after the tissue around the implants has healed.
