What Happens at a Dental Exam?
A dental examination involves the examination of the face, neck, lymph nodes, and lower jaw. You will also be examined for gum disease, for any cracked, chipped, loose or broken teeth, assessed for oral cancer, given x-rays, and will be examined for damage to your existing fillings. Digital x-rays enable us to obtain a more detailed understanding of each patient's oral health. In this manner, our cosmetic dentist can diagnose conditions that can't be observed by the naked eye, such as tooth decay, abscesses, cysts, bone loss, and impacted teeth. If dental problems are not treated early on, you will require more extensive treatment in the future. An oral cleaning is performed after your exam by a dental hygienist to keep your gums and teeth healthy.
Why Exams Are Vital
Dental exams are beneficial in many ways. This includes gum disease treatment, detecting oral cancer early, resolving minor oral health problems, preventing teeth grinding, checking for bite and jaw abnormalities, and maintaining healthy gums and teeth. The accumulation of tartar and plaque on gums and teeth can have devastating results. In the early stages of gum disease, gingivitis may be reversed.
When oral cancer is detected early, it may be treated. We have a special light that we use inside the mouth to detect dead tissues from tumors that can be detected by our dental team on a regular basis.
As a result of bruxism, you may experience bite changes and the wear and tear of your teeth. Our bruxism treatment provides night guards to protect your teeth during the night while you sleep. The use of TMJ therapy can treat ear pain and chronic headaches. Among the options available to us are night guards, bite adjustments, cortisone injections, and orthodontics.
A dental cleaning is also conducted as part of a yearly exam to uncover any problems. We recommend that children also have regular teeth cleanings since they are forming new oral hygiene habits at this point, and we can detect inconsistencies early.
